Introduction Periyazhvar (also known as Vishnuchittar), the foster father of Kodhai and a great devotee of Lord Krishna, is one of the 12 Alvars. Why is he called Periyazhvar? Because of his selfless love and devotion to god. While all of us are still a little concerned about our looks, Periyazhvar never thought of himself. Just as Mother Yashoda loves to adorn her lion cub Lord Krishna, he spends more time decorating the Lord. He does simple tasks. He makes garlands for the Lord. Whenever the Lord appears before him, he will not be jealous or ask him anything, but rather, "Lord! In this Kaliyuga, you have appeared for me! You must live long !!!" and the song "Pallandu" was thus composed. This can only be done by one who has a heart full of pure devotion and selfless love, who does not think of himself and is immersed in the thought of the Lord.
